In-House Counsel | Construction & Restoration Firm

A leading construction and restoration company in the Chicagoland area is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel to join our collaborative team. This on-site legal role is key in supporting compliance, risk management, claims, and employment-related legal matters.

Location: Western Suburbs, IL

Salary: $135,000 – $190,000, DOE

About the Role:

As In-House Counsel, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding the business through robust legal oversight. You’ll manage a diverse mix of responsibilities spanning claims filing, wage garnishment/litigation, collections, and HR compliance for a multi-division construction firm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead filing and management of OSHA and regulatory claims, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
• Oversee and litigate collections, wage garnishments, and related legal filings across multiple jurisdictions.
• Advise on employment law and HR matters, including compliance, policies, recruitment, terminations, and dispute resolution.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, clients, and partners.
• Support business compliance including licensing, permitting, and risk management protocols.
• Prepare required annual reports and maintain compliance in all applicable states.
• Represent the organization during disputes, mediations, arbitrations, and regulatory hearings as needed.
• Conduct legal research and provide clear, actionable guidance to leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor and interpret regulatory developments, proactively updating company policies.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, HR, project managers, and outside counsel.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license in good standing.
• 4+ years’ experience as in-house counsel or similar legal capacity, ideally within construction, manufacturing, or services sectors.
• Direct expertise in OSHA claims, wage garnishment, collections litigation, and broad HR/employment compliance.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor/employment laws.
• Excellent communication, research, and negotiation skills.
